Agave Attenuata with San Pedro

Displaying cacti and succulents in a symmetrical and complimentary design is a great way to highlight these fantastic plants. I like to combine contrasting forms to complement and highlight each plant. In this case I chose Agave Attenuata and San Pedro. I think they look fantastic together.

Have you paired up any cacti or succulents? Or displayed cacti symmetrically?

Beautiful Columnar Cactus Flower

This beautiful columnar cactus flower is one of my favourites. They are huge flowers which remain open most of the day. The cerus cactus they are from is equally spectacular and as you can see in this image it flowers prolifically.

San Pedro’s are now Budding

The yearly spectacular of San Pedros in flower has begun. Here’s a photo I took earlier today. These San Pedros are around 4 metres high.

San Pedro flower buds first appear late October early November. The Agave in front have incredible flower spikes. After almost twenty years I’m still waiting for my first, but the two original plants have born many offspring.

Cerus Columnar Cactus in Flower

I’m not sure of the variety of this columnar cactus. I believe it a Cereus chalybaeus, but if you know for sure please leave a comment. It flowers incredibly profusely all summer and the best part is that the flowers stay out until after lunch time, whereas other similar cacti flowers normally close up early in the morning.
